A new format of the Montréal Summit on Innovation is made possible thanks to a partnership between the Quartier de l’Innovation, C2 Montréal, ÉTS, McGill, Concordia and UQAM.

The Quartier de l’Innovation (QI), C2 Montréal and the QI member universities—École de technologie supérieure, McGill University, Concordia University and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)—are proud to announce that they are joining forces to offer a new format of the Montréal Summit on Innovation starting next year, with a view to growing the city’s creative potential thanks to the excellence and vitality of academic research in Montréal.
As the event’s main partner in 2018, UQAM will kick off this renewed format and organize the next Summit, on the theme of innovation and social economies, at the C2 Montréal conference in May 2018. C2 Montréal’s mission is to combine creativity with commerce in order to transform the way we do business. The annual conference also aims to inspire leaders to make a positive impact on the world. The partnership arises from this desire to make a difference.

For over three years now, a portion of the C2 Montréal program has been dedicated to issues surrounding the social economy, and this is an excellent opportunity to get players from the C2 ecosystem involved. Hosting the 2018 Montréal Summit on Innovation is the next step for us in our effort to advance society through creativity and collaboration,” says Richard St-Pierre, President of C2 Montréal.

Organized by QI since 2012, the Montréal Summit on Innovation brings together over 300 people from industry, government, academic and community organizations each year. These participants discuss solutions to issues such as sustainable and intelligent networks, health and creative industries, adaptation to climate change and the impact of the fourth industrial revolution.

According to Damien Silès, Executive Director of the Quartier de l’Innovation, “This multi-institutional edition, resulting from a collaboration with C2 Montréal and our member universities, will gather the city’s most avant-garde professors and researchers to lay the groundwork for ideas to collide and innovative solutions to emerge. In this way, we can respond to the most complex challenges facing the city, organizations and citizens today.

Leading the organization of the 2018 Summit, UQAM will put its expertise in social innovation to work thanks to the contribution of some 120 researchers and designers.

For over 50 years, the success of UQAM has been founded on its ability to leave the beaten path, think differently about the world and share its expertise with the society that surrounds it. It therefore seemed natural for us to join this original partnership which will give new impetus to Montréal’s innovation ecosystem,” says Robert Proulx, Rector of UQAM.

According to Catherine Mounier, Vice-Rector of Research and Design at UQAM, “By associating itself with C2 Montréal, QI and its member universities, UQAM is reiterating its desire to contribute to social, scientific, economic and cultural progress through cutting-edge research focused on the development and application of creative, innovative solutions that respond to society’s needs in a sustainable way. This partnership demonstrates that universities are essential participants in large gatherings on innovation, creativity and invention.”
