In less than a week, nearly 50 Québec companies and 100 individual participants from the province will converge on Austin, Texas, to attend the 2017 SXSW Interactive Festival. An internationally renowned gathering where all noteworthy emerging trends and disruptive technologies are sure to be represented, this festival is a unique opportunity to showcase our local know-how and innovations. Neoshop Montreal and Quartier de l’innovation will definitely be there!
Launched last December, the Neoshop Boutique was designed as an innovation showcase and a test bed for new products. Its mission is to promote Québec entrepreneurship and support new startups in their marketing efforts by providing a forum where consumers can try out, purchase and comment on their newest innovative products. A booth featuring a variety of items will be set up in Austin as part of the festival.
Planet Québec, the mission to SXSW, has been attending for a few years now, but 2017 will be unlike any previous year. Organized by Export Québec, Tak Design and Les soirées Mangrove, the largest ever delegation of Québec technological companies will be taking part in this year’s SXSW Interactive Festival. Earlier this year, Neoshop Montreal participated in a regional pitch competition, travelling to Sherbrooke, Shawinigan and Québec City to award each of five startups with a cash grant of $2,600. A centrally located house will be transformed into the Québec Sugar Shack and used as the delegation’s headquarters for SXSW Interactive 2017. The Sugar Shack will host numerous panels on a variety of current topics, including:
- Virtual/augmented reality
- The Internet of things
- Retail trade
- Artificial intelligence
- Med Tech
Neoshop Montreal will also participate in a panel on the future of retail trade, along with Elizabeth Stefanka (Stefanka), Alec Lacroix (Questology) and Elizabeth Brooks (formerly of Live Nation and Napster). The discussion will focus on current retail trends, the integration of technology in tomorrow’s boutiques, customer experience in the digital age and the importance of data and data analysis.
